FMB IT suite opened at St Andrews International High School - 16/June/09

St Andrews International High School in Blantyre has opened the First Merchant Bank (FMB) IT Centre at the school's premises in Nyambadwe, Blantyre in its quest to achieve its vision of being a leader of education in Africa.

The school's headmaster Gordon Benbow said the school has been delivering IT curriculum since 1996 and the coming in of the FMB IT Centre has increased its capacity and that it can now offer IT services to the neighbouring schools. "All students leave with an IT qualification. I am pleased to announce that we are Malawi's first Microsoft Academy. Using Microsoft facilities, we will be able to offer training that will benefit local students and teachers," he said. Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, FMB vice- chairman Hitesh Anadkat said no school can be considered progressive unless it keeps its students up to date in today's rapidly changing area of technology and communication

FMB pumped in K15 million which was used to purchase the 50 computers while Beit Trust gave K7 million for the building itself. Other donations came from parents and Rainbow Paints.
