FMB launches Makwacha Kupata-Kutaya Promotion - 10/February/2010

Tobacco farmers across the country stand to benefit more for being First Merchant Bank (FMB) account holders through the newly introduced Makwacha Kutapa-Kutaya promotion. The promotion which runs from February 1, 2010 to February 28, 2010 is part of the bank's re-branding celebration and targets tobacco farmers in rural areas and to show that as a bank they are for everyone.

FMB's Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Manager, Wezi Chavula said the promotion aims at benefitting the farmers. "As a bank, we want the farmers to get their proceeds as quickly as possible through the Makwacha cards," she said. Chavula further said the month of February would be for monitoring people's response but the promotion might go on till the closure of the tobacco market. "We want to see what the response will be like during the month and then we will decide on extending till the tobacco season ends," said Chavula. She also said that opening of Makwacha account is free and that there are over 80 Makwacha card service centres across the country.

According to Chavula, the winner stands to walk away with a cool Klmillion while the second prize is K250.000 and the third prize will be K 150,000 plus 10 consolation prizes of K 10,000 each. FMB, which has embarked on targeting rural communities through opening of branches in rural areas, recently opened a branch in Rumphi and will soon be opening two more branches in Mzimba and Nkhata-bay.
