…with MK2 million in Aid of Ntchisi District Hospital

FMB Malawi has today committed MK2 million in support of Stewart “The Cyclist” Kambewa’s ride from Blantyre to Lilongwe in a bid to raise funds for Nation Publication Limited’s annual Mother’s Day Fun Run; proceeds of which will be channelled towards improving the maternity wing at Ntchisi District Hospital and surrounding health centres.

Briefing the media on FMB’s involvement – Head of Transactional Banking, Ewen Hiwa said the bank is honoured to stand behind one of their very own.

“Giving back to the community through noble causes is at the core of FMB, as evidenced by the numerous projects implemented by the Bank and even our Chairman in his personal capacity. It is therefore very encouraging to realise that this culture of giving has been inculcated in the Bank’s employees as can be seen in this gesture by Stewart.

Added to this, by making this contribution; we are not only assisting an FMB family member in realising a selfless goal, we are also contributing towards an improvement in maternal health care at Ntchisi District Hospital and surrounding areas,” Hiwa said.

“We hope that this challenge will represent more than just a cycle from Blantyre to Lilongwe and that it will serve as a reminder to take stock of our own fortunes and also raise awareness of society’s most pressing needs that may require the attention and support of various stakeholders, financially, materially and morally,” he added.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the Nations Publication Limited, Stewart Kambewa said he was humbled by the Bank’s gesture and hoped that it would inspire other corporates to contribute to the cause.

Stewart is set to travel the 311km distance in one day, starting off at Chileka roundabout with 5 checkpoints at Zalewa, Chingeni, Ntcheu, Dedza and finally Lilongwe. He intends to raise MK20million as his primary target via through this initiative.

Currently, the Hospital and surrounding health centres are marred by various challenges that include the lack of running water, lack of oxygen and blood pressure (BP) testing machines and other essential equipment. Nation Publication Limited would like to raise MK150 million for this cause.
