The First Merchant bank Corporate Social Responsibility policy supports and encourages excellence in education, health and sports in Malawi.

FMB DONATES TO CHILDREN’S CANCER WARD

First Merchant bank donated MK100,000 towards The Children’s Cancer Ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. The donation was made at a fundraising music festival held at the Blantyre Youth Centre where The Zion Knights Band performed for charity.

The donation will contribute towards the purchase of essential cancer drugs, pain killers and extra nutritional support for the cancer-stricken children. Commenting on the event, FMB’s Marketing Manager, Mary Chilima, stated “FMB truly cares about the nation and shall continue to pursue long term solutions for the numerous plights afflicting Malawians.”

FMB DONATES TO MALAWI CRICKET UNION

First Merchant Bank is proud sponsor of major sporting competitions such as the annual FMB Cricket Cup. In 2007, the bank donated a cheque worth MK300,000 to the Malawi Cricket Union as sponsorship for the FMB Cup.

In line with its support of Malawian Sports, FMB has been sponsoring this cup since 2003 and intends to continue this gesture into the foreseeable future.

FMB DONATES TO LILONGWE GOLF CLUB

In true sportsmanship, at its recent customer golf day, First Merchant Bank donated MK50,000 to the Lilongwe Golf Club towards the upkeep of the course. This donation was received warmly by the Golf Captain who expressed his appreciation at the bank’s thoughtfulness.

FMB BURSARIES

First Merchant Bank proudly offers bursaries to a significant number of students in various institutions. The bursaries are usually given to those students who are financially limited but are passionate about their studies.

Priority is given to written applications that clearly outline the student’s situation and the role that he/she would like the bank to play.

Several of those sponsored have proven to be outstanding students and have subsequently been employed by the bank.  In keeping with its corporate responsibility the bank awarded 11 bursaries to under privileged students in 2007.
